Available worldwide with a Wi-Fi connection, AEON School is deliberately designed to promote deep, innovative learning with exceptional flexibility. With its interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum tailored for synchronous and asynchronous learning, a proprietary learning platform, and an outstanding collaborative global faculty, AEON is setting a new benchmark in online education. Our students come from over 40 countries, contributing their diverse cultural and geographical backgrounds and global mobility to their daily learning experience. From early childhood through 12th grade, our students learn online to thrive offline, applying their knowledge to their local contexts around the globe. At AEON, students are encouraged to take ownership of their education from a young age and cultivate the critical and creative thinking skills required to comprehend and address global-scale challenges.
The Opportunity
The foundation of an AEON education is Great Works, where students engage in interdisciplinary projects that merge the study of literature, history, philosophy, economics, social sciences, math, science, engineering, technology, and design. A Great Books curriculum enhances each unit of study. Students read and discuss selected texts that enrich their understanding of what they learn and shape the defining ideas of humanity. The result is a unique blend of academic depth and interdisciplinary breadth, guiding students to make insightful connections between their coursework and the world around them.
As a Great Works STEAM teacher, you will support students in grades 6-12 as they explore the Great Works curriculum focused on social sciences, math, science, engineering, technology, and design. This position will support students in our Cohort Pathway, which brings students together in synchronous classes to provide an immersive and collaborative learning experience for students. As a cohort teacher, you design interactive activities and productive discussions, and foster a supportive environment where the students can engage with each other's ideas and perspectives.
What You Will Do
- Serve as lead instructor for 40-60 current Upper Division students (grades 6-12) located in time zones across the Americas.
- Lead weekly scheduled synchronous and one-on-one tutoring sessions, coach/facilitate office hour sessions, and provide asynchronous feedback, primarily via our digital math notebooks to support students through project-based integrated science curricula.
- Utilize all resources available to encourage the success of each student by considering engagement with the coursework, quality of contribution during synchronous touchpoints, and preparation of individual work.
- Co-construct with students an environment that establishes high standards, fosters a sense of belonging, and upholds our values of welcome, safety, and respect.
- Collaborate with other faculty and deans; practice cultural competence in student and adult spaces.
- Inspire trust and confidence among families through regular, proactive communication.
Who You Are
- Physically located in a timezone between GMT-0 and GMT+12; available to lead synchronous group sessions and one-on-ones with students Monday - Thursday between 9am to 5pm Eastern Standard Time (GMT-4).
- You have several years of STEAM teaching experience and a track record of deep student learning
- Possess a strong sense of ownership and personal responsibility for the success of every student, as well as a commitment to creating a learning culture of equity and inclusion
- Display good judgment and sensibility
- Proactively seek honest feedback from others, receive critical feedback well, and apply learnings from feedback to improve your own craft
- Ability to set priorities in a changing environment, comfort with change, and experience approaching novel situations with curiosity and a can-do mindset.
- Experience using technology to communicate, collaborate with colleagues, and enhance instruction. Proficiency in delivering instruction via multiple platforms is required. (Examples: Google Suite, Desmos, Apple operating systems, Zoom.)
